29. International Baltic Ballet Festival October and November 2024
29. The International Baltic Ballet Festival, which will take place in October and November 2024 and still has its motto “from Classic to avant-garde,” is about to re-excite viewers by showcasing the diversity and charm of the dance world! The Ukrainian will be represented at this year's festival by choreographer Radu Poklitaru and Kyiv modern Ballet Theatre (Kyiv modern-Ballet), a visiting card for Ukrainian contemporary art today. It is a Ukrainian theatre of modern choreography intended as an author's theatre, where repertoire and artistic priorities are determined by staging one choreographer; Theatre calls for the creation of the modern dance creative lab - bold experiments, an original reading of world-famous theatre plots, modern dance forms and the updating and enrichment of vocabulary. As the leading theatre of contemporary stage dance, Kyiv modern-Ballet, founded in 2005, surprises with the diversity and richness of the repertoire. It is based on performances staged by Radu Poklitaru, while this repertoire is accompanied by performances by young Ukrainian choreographers. The programme specifically prepared for Latvian viewers can be called an up-to-date retrospective because it is made up of the best choreographed miniatures of various years by Radu Poklitaru (Part one) and two recent works: for ballets, “Lonely Angel” (co-written by Artjom Shashin) and “Friends”, created on the order of the “April of Peteris Vasks music” festival. The one-act ballet “Lonely Angel,” designed with meditation of the same name for violin and strings, is a devotion to the Ukrainian people and a boost to Ukrainian artists during this difficult time. Ballet “Friends” is a gift from choreographer Radu Poklitaru for the composer's birthday: “The deep sound of the second cello concert, “Presence,” reflects these last few years in which I grew up and which brought so much into my life. It's not just the horror of war, it's also countless vivid loves, friendships, warmth, jealousy, despair, secret touches, many flashy hopes. This is my birthday present to Peteris.” Antonio Andrades's “Compañía Flamenca” from Spain is a famous group of artists who bring flamenco passion and beauty to the stage. With its long-standing experience and devotion to flamenco art, it offers memorable and alluring performances for its audiences, surprising many prestigious theaters around the world. Get ready for a tour of Andalusia with a show called “Flamenco Suite.” Artists will take you through the dynamic landscape and you'll experience different styles of flamenco - alegrías from Kadiz, tango from Malaga and bulerías from Herez are just some of the shapes that come together in this stunning and diverse programme, filling the stage with flamenco passion, energy and wealth. Impressively solo and exciting choreography combines to create a contemporary flamenco image deeply aware of its traditional, ethnic roots. "Baltic Ballet Theatre" was founded in Lithuania in 2009 and its artistic director is Maria Simona Shimulynaite. It's a new and unique product in the Lithuanian dance circuit. “Baltic Ballet Theatre” is a young, ambitious and talented team made up of young potential artists who studied abroad but have a desire to work and create in their homeland. Troupe's main dance style is neoclassicist ballet. Unusual pieces, setting as well as lighting have been chosen to create unconventional expressions and find dynamic ways to exhibit challenging dance ideas while remaining accessible to viewers. Trump is also appreciated by people who have so far had no interest in ballet or dance. The shows address both professional dancers and fans of traditional and modern dance - people who feel dance in their soul. “Another World” is based on the music of Depeche Mode and Haruki Murakami's novel “Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World.” The show is made up of various movements, each inspired by symbols, philosophy, visual materials and, of course, energetic music. The sound calls for movement, and all of this transports us into the world of dreams, lights, lasers and visual projections. Dancers become androgynous mechanical creatures diving into a room of mutant dreams and synthetic feelings. The characters portray unknown mines of our subconscious and project the path we all choose without even realizing. The futuristic show showcases a surreal world that no longer has room for natural feelings and acceptance of reality. People communicate, laugh, express anger and even find themselves not because they want to, but because they have to. It's a world where there's no real male-female relationship anymore -- everyone looks the same and prefers to hide behind masks and post emotions so they don't get hurt. In this situation, we can only dream of a real, natural and free country. As Depeche Mode puts it: “Dream On … Dream On …” Tickets can be purchased at the "Biļešu Paradīze" and on the internet. ...
