The traditional festival opening charity concert at the Riga International Railway Station / TC Origo will be held on March 9th. As director of 23.BBF, Lita Beiris, tells, this time, as always, every concert viewer will be invited to enjoy the magic of ballet and contemporary dance art. "The concert will reflect the mobile character of the ballet artist - always be on the way from the show to the show. The opening concert is a venue for Latvian artists representing various genres of dance and music art, and this in the most direct way represents the availability of ballet art to humans. "

On March 12 at the Latvian National Opera, the 23.BBF Gala Concert will take place as the most significant event of the festival, as it will offer a ballet concert program featuring leading soloists from world-famous ballet theaters, as well as winners of international ballet competitions from Russia, China, USA, Germany, France, Austria, Turkey. "The concert will keep the tradition, including classical ballet schools and modern ballet novels," says the director of the festival.

As always, this year the festival’s guests will be able to see the guest performances not only in Riga: from March 12 to March 18, the German National Youth Ballet BUNDESJUGENDBALLETT (Hamburg, Germany) will perform in Preili and Riga.

World-famous choreographer John Neumeier founded the German National Youth Ballet in 2011, who is considered as the world’s leading ballet choreographer. The company has eight professional dancers. They are both dancers and choreographers, so they form their own creative personality and thoroughly prepare for the profession. They operate in the centre of the Hamburg Ballet and enrich the city and countrywide dance and cultural landscapes. They represent seven different nations and speak one language - movement. They discover new forms of dance without abandoning the tradition, as they sure are a ballet company. The classical technique is the way opens up the playing space for them. Therefore, they are trying to improve the technique. They love the dance and want to thrill, captivate the viewers, so they also go to those who do not have the opportunity to watch the ballet: the arabesque in a seniors’ home, Grand jete in a prison, pirouettes at a work break. Dance as a social adventure. In Hamburg, Germany, overseas.

“Although it is currently not possible to invite the Hamburg National Ballet Theater to Latvia, at least there is an opportunity to enjoy the creative work of the ballet genius in the performance of the National Youth Ballet. The repertoire of the festival also includes the choreography by John Neumeier,” reveals Lita Beiris.
